I hope you don't mind, but I would like to be a bit candid with you.
I am somewhat humored/annoyed when I see young, vibrant almost-about-to-graduate-college kids talk about how they want to work with the underprivileged and at risk children and they, honestly, don't have a stinkin' clue as to what that actually entails.
YES, we all love traveling to other countries and taking short trips where we are exposed to outrageous atrocities and feel as if we are making some sort of difference in the lives of the "underprivileged" who need and appreciate you more than anything it seems like.
BUT, what about the kids in our backyard who are more underprivileged than we realize and glare at you everyday and think they don't need you and won't give you a bit of attention or respect?? Do you STILL want to work with the underprivileged? Do you STILL think it's that glamorous? Our "underprivileged" kids aren't as grateful and kind-hearted as those you might meet overseas-But that doesn't mean they don't need us. All I'm saying is... pay your dues, then let me know what you think. The people that stick through it and choose to be around those unruly little knuckleheads who act like they hate you.... those are the rockstars.
And No, I'm not even talking about us regular teachers, because honestly, I have great kids and just a few knuckleheads, but I'm talking about those who are involved everyday with kids in our own backyard who rebel and push aside every little moral those adults try to teach them but who need it more than they realize. You don't have to go out of the country to "help the needy and poor." Just open your eyes.
.... my mom said I hadn't been blogging enough latey... so I tried tonight, and this is all that came out. :o)

Even the ones that throw rocks at your door? :)
love this blog! and I would LOVE to know what Katie is talking about.
right on...One pastor said when ask "how much money do you guys raise for missions? He respond, everything that comes in! Our city is our mission."
- He continued and said, "God have mercy own the church that will send money to "world missions", but neglect the people in thier backyards."
What can we do for cleveland, tn?
Well Katie and I had a rock thrown at our door last night at about 6:30ish. We are thinking maybe the unruly neighbors...? But, surely they're not that stupid.
