We took an 8th grade reward field trip yesterday to the Biltmore in NC. A lot of our kids have never even been out of the state, let alone seen a massively huge house like the Biltmore.
We took 3 school buses, about 160 people. We left at 8 am... got to the grounds at about 12:30... not too bad. We ate a boxed lunch in the FREEZING cold-biting into a cold apple outside is so not fun. The kids did wonderful throughout the house and were actually inquisitive and asked questions!! I was so proud! It's so gorgeous at Christmas time, and I'm so happy they were exposed to that culture.
Nooowww... for the not so fun part:
We left at 4:20ish...
Stopped 10 min. down the interstate to get gas for ONE bus.... as to which we ALL had to get off because it's law while putting fuel in the bus.
Stopped 20 min. later to eat dinner. Taco Bell is the slowest fast food EVER, and after an hour-we eventually reloaded. The other 2 buses were DONE, while our ONE bus was still waiting.
Stopped AGAIN 30 min. later because some of our brilliant children decided to chug energy drinks and then had to relieve themselves!!! AHHHH!!!! I had decided by that point if anyone else had to use the restroom, they were going to have to get creative. And did I mention we were on SCHOOL buses, NOT charter buses?
(also... important to know it was raining as well, so we were CREEPIN' down the mountain at like 50)
Rolled into the Forest at 10:30. A 6-hour ride home?!?! Seriously?!?!? I'm drivin' next time...
I have no pictures from the event, but just imagine me bundled up on a cold bus with my UK blanket wrapped around me... that's pretty much how I looked the whole time. :o)
