I have had the privilege this weekend to be with people much younger than I. What a way to spend your Friday night, chaperoning a Middle School dance! We have a dance almost every month because they are HUGE money makers. $5 for 2 hours of baby sitting is basically what it boils down to. Also, I help with SGA, therefore I have to attend about 4 a year!
Middle school dances = a large amount of pre-teen, hormonal boys and girls who know how to start some drama the instant they walk in the door. I love watching these kids dance by themselves when they think nobody is watching.
Tonight I was actually with my favorite kids of all-my nephews and niece. My sister and brother-in-law went to the prom (haha, sounds funny but Rachel is a teacher at Walker Valley HS) and enjoyed a nice dinner, so this was my FIRST time having all 3 kids by myself. Actually, it went suprisingly well. Harper did great (well, except for the small amount of time she screamed so loud it almost burst my ear drum) and was easily fed then fell right to sleep at 8. The boys played outside until 8 and then came in for baths, a movie, and now finally asleep.
The boys' personalities are so different! You can tell they are very used to their habits and patterns of their mom and dad, and they are NOT afraid to tell you if you are doing something wrong.
After bringing in their bikes, I was instructed NOT to hit or scratch the truck-which I know is what their dad has told them a million times. Then, in the bath, there are specific ways they like to be washed and Winston informed me of that. Afterwards, they watched the Bee movie (while I played the Wii!!) and then I was informed that it's time to go to bed. They have a rotating system as to who their dad gets in bed with first, so since it was me tonight... I played the part. I laid with Fletcher first for about 10 minutes-he feel asleep-and then I moved to Winston. HA, now.... he rolled up his pants and shirt and instructed me how to rub him, because he LOVES for you to rub his back and belly.... and arms and legs... and face. VERY ironic because that's how I was when I was little, so I just love that I get to do that to him now. This was probably the best way to spend my Saturday night...
