Summer 09

Without extreme order and planning my life gets a little "off". So I apologize for lacking in my blogging but summertime throws me for a loop!! Here are highlights of the past few weeks...

1. Katie's wedding is T-10 days and I am PUMPED! Several of us have thrown 2 showers for her.... her personal and her Bridal tea.

2. We've had lots of fun and action at the pool... even celebrated gran's birthday at the pool.... with a little bit of cornhole as well. =)

3. We found out last week that my sister Sarah and bro-in-law Alex are having a BOY in November! Yay! We are definitely used to boys in the fam. ALSO, exciting news, Sarah had her big "match day" on the 17th for her Oncology residency and found out she is headed to Vanderbilt next year!! WAHOOO!!!! This is WONDERFUL news because this is as close to the family as she can get and still be able to do her Oncology residency. Not to mention, Vanderbilt is tough to get into so we are very proud of her. Yay for Nashville!

4. I'm holding out on house pictures because I really want to wait until I have it all done before I post before and afters. But, once again, super thankful for all the help moving in.

5. This past week my sister Rachel birthed precious Jones Wade Hicks! He was born Wednesday, June 24, and it was a fairly easy (as easy as it can get I suppose!) delivery. He is perfect and tiny and such a great baby! I helped her today so she can get adjusted to having all four while Eddie heads back to work. The big boys are precious to him too.

My summer is flying by, but I must say.... I have really enjoyed hanging out with some old friends and reliving lots of memories. I'm trying to make the time for it before school starts. Also, I have to admit as well that summer time really affects my spiritual "study" (aka Jesus time, God time, being in the prayer closet... whatever you choose to call it) so I am really going to have to make more of a conscious effort in that area. One of those seasons I suppose.... pray for me on that if you don't mind.

Hope to have more fun pics of the summer later!

Mini-Update

I have fabulous intentions of putting pictures of recent events, but I'm in a small hurry! Just wanted to announce the arrival of my BRAND new nephew Jones Wade Hicks! He came yesterday evening at 9:42 p.m., 6 lbs. 12 oz., 19 in. long. Dark hair and good skin! Like his momma!

Rachel is awesome at giving birth and handles it like a pro... everything went extra great and he came out perfect. =) All four kids were in the hospital room today... oh how interesting life is about to be.

Let the fun begin!

Well I am officially moved into my new house! Saturday, Katie and I were so blessed to have 9 people come help us move!! (Special shout out and thanks to Cameron, Brad, Arhmin, Steve, Kevin, T, Mario, Chad, and Brian) We could NOT have done it without all this man power. In 2 loads and less than 4 hours everything was moved into the house. Totally awesome! (I have a picture to show the fun but my cord for my camera is packed away....somewhere?)

I am unloading a few boxes everyday, yet still finding time for the pool. =) I have learned a few things already. My house is only 4 years old, and it's interesting how many "issues" I have already uncovered. Let me share...

1. Massive dead tree has to come down-pretty penny to spend...oh joy.
2. My FABULOUS brother in law cleaned out my gutters because water was pouring over them when it rained thus causing leakage on the side of the house into the house somehow? AND he crawled in my attic and fixed another issue...don't really know how to explain it.
3. Hot water hasn't been working, but I believe I fixed that tonight.
4. LOTS of flies have found their way inside because of keeping the door open while moving... gotta start swatting!
5. 2 bathroom sinks are semi-clogged, probably from not being used in several years.
6. Refrigerator has water leaking from freezer part into frig part. Haven't fixed this yet...

Here are just a few and I still have several things to do to "spruce" the place up. Whew... this will be a year long event! BUT... I love sitting here at night in my own house in this very safe neighborhood. I am very blessed! COME VISIT!

RIP Tyler Carver. 1 year ago today.

Our family was reliving a little bit the day that Tyler passed away last year and all the different emotions we felt. I remember my mom calling and still somewhat sobbing and she told me... and it was strange... because I didn't really believe her. I genuinely thought it was a mistake and she would call me back and just say he was injured badly. My sister informed me that that is a true state of denial, ha... which I never realized. I didn't even cry. I even hung up the phone, told Katie, and carried on. Then the next day it all came crashing down.

Weird how things happen... still amazed at that young boy's life though. His funeral program hangs on my wall and reminds me daily. I think about his impact often. Much love to the Carvers.

Summer Fun

These few weeks of summer thus far have been action packed! My sister Sarah and her husband have been in town for almost a week, and she is about 16 weeks pregnant. This will be the only time Rachel and Sarah will be pregnant at the same time, since this is Rachel's last. So I feel like these photos are priceless! The whole fam went to The Fox Cay tonight on Harrison Bay and it was great fun.

Color Me 1-2-3

The painting has begun and although it's not the most exciting thing to see plain, painted walls.... I feel that I should give credit where credit is due!! THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me paint thus far... Brad, Cameron, Steve, T, Mom, Sarah, Alex, and Wendy! It's fun, but terribly exhausting! And I feel that my wallet (and even a few others) is being sucked dry... I suppose it's worth it though. =)
